Our client is a state-funded, independent research organization dedicated to coordinating and supporting scientific research in Hungary. Its main mission is to foster basic and applied research across various scientific disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering, and life sciences. The organization brings together research centres, institutes, and supported research groups, promoting collaboration with universities, industry stakeholders, and international partners. To lead its dynamically growing and expanding economic and financial team, the organization is seeking a candidate for the following position:

Group CFO – Chief Financial Officer

Purpose of the role:

The Group CFO plays a key role in the financial management and economic decision-making of the organization. The position is responsible for shaping the financial and economic strategy, coordinating controlling, accounting, financial planning, and reporting. The CFO ensures cost efficiency, liquidity, transparent reporting, and compliance with regulations. The role includes direct leadership of the financial function, team development, and representing the organization with external partners, authorities, and international stakeholders.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the organization’s economic and financial strategy
  • Manage controlling, accounting, financial planning, and reporting processes
  • Ensure cost efficiency and liquidity throughout operations
  • Develop and maintain organizational management systems
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external partners, including authorities
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team
  • Drive change management and provide strategic direction in the financial domain

Requirements:

  • University degree in economics, finance, or accounting
  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant professional experience in finance/economics
  • At least 3–5 years of leadership experience at middle or senior management level
  • Proficiency in English (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with double-entry bookkeeping in the private sector
  • Knowledge of international corporate financial management
  • Experience in implementing and using ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Familiarity with organizational management systems and enterprise software
  • Strategic thinking, financial planning, and risk management experience
